You can participate in any of our choirs. But remember that there are some rules:

Auditions will take place in-person during week 0 and week 1 of the quarter.

Concert Choir does not require an audition, although there will be a vocal range placement by singing a vowel or single syllable along with the piano.

Chamber singers and Voces are auditioned choirs. The process is:

  • Sing a short song that best features your voice in terms of range, vocal quality, and style.

  • A few exercises to assess your sight-reading skills, tonal memory, and vocal range.

  • Announcement of the final roster: After the audition process has finished, each auditionee will be informed of the result of their audition via email.

No! We have many singers each year who major in something other than music. All students are encouraged and welcome to audition, regardless of experience or perceived ability level.

  • UCI Chamber Singers (MUSIC 171) Tuesdays / Thursdays 3:30 PM- 5:00 PM and Wednesdays 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

  • UCI Concert Choir (MUSIC 167) Thursdays 7:00 PM - 9:50 PM

  • Voces Chamber Ensemble. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:20 PM - 6:15 PM

Please present a piece you believe shows off your voice as well as your range. We recommend classical art songs, arias, hymns, or Golden Age musical theater pieces for this, but you may present any piece you think really shows off your voice.

Singers are encouraged to audition for the voice part with which they are most comfortable. However, each singer is thoroughly tested to determine her/his most appropriate voice part. The decision is made by considering the singer’s vocal range, color, clarity, etc.
